Senior Data Analyst
Position Overview:
We seek an experienced professional to support the analytic needs of MIT Technology Review by owning data analysis and reporting in order to provide actionable insights and recommendations to several teams, including but not limited to consumer marketing, events, editorial, and sales. The ideal candidate is proficient in building strong analytics systems using technically robust methods. The Senior Data Analyst will play a pivotal role in collaborating with stakeholders to develop a course of action based on insights derived from data and trends.
This position requires someone that is highly motivated, organized, detail-oriented, passionate about problem solving and can operate effectively in independent and collaborative team settings. We seek a professional that is comfortable providing insights and making recommendations based on a growing strategic understanding of MIT Technology Review’s mission, commercial and editorial objectives.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**)
- Translate business goals and site functionality into data collection process, such as implementing tracking solutions and managing site tagging through GTM360 and first-party data collecting, which allows end users to easily translate data into meaningful observations.
- Partner with multiple business stakeholders to understand their goals and synthesize tracking plans. Query, manipulate and transform data from multiple sources and deliver analysis and reporting solutions that provide deep insights into customer behavior across website/app.
- Design, develop and maintain scaled, automated, user-friendly systems, reports, and dashboards by pulling data that combines website data with information from other sources, such as our 3rd party Subscription fulfillment vendor and our WordPress CMS.
- Interpret digital traffic and revenue data gathered from various sources and analyze trends in KPIs to support business decisions.
- Develop and support analytical technologies that give our stakeholders timely, flexible and structured access to their data.
- Own periodic or ad-hoc data analysis reporting and data investigations including monitoring and QA.
- Collaborate with the data engineer to blend data from multiple systems to identify patterns and trends.
- Advance the overall knowledge of data and Google Marketing Platform tools by providing training and mentoring to teammates throughout the organization.
- Identify opportunities for improvement in collaboration with channel managers that drives fundamental improvements to the site experience as well as increases the conversion rate for subscriptions and event ticket sales.
- Improve and expand our data capture strategy to take advantage of GA4.
- Oversee the overall evolution of our data and reporting tools and frameworks in collaboration with stakeholders.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with analysis and reporting tools. Expert-level proficiency in the primary components of our stack—Google Analytics, Google Data Studio, Google Tag Manager.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in advanced web analytics methodologies such as experimentation and testing, competitive analysis, surveys, and market research.
- Experience and fluency with online media and/or e-commerce environments.
- Exceptional Excel skills
- Understands complex web ecosystems and best practices and applies this knowledge to their work.
- Expertise with customer data platforms and other business intelligence tools.
- Experience writing and tuning SQL queries, and comfort with the tools and languages most often used to gather and manipulate data. (Python, R, etc.) a plus.
- Experience integrating 3rd-party APIs (data sources) into a business intelligence stack.
- Experience measuring the success of digital marketing efforts, e.g. social, SEM/PPC, and SEO campaigns.
- A working understanding of core website technologies (HTML, CSS, JS)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of end-users and technical resources.
- Able to work effectively both independently and as a member of a cross-functional team.
- Uses sound judgment to identify issues and escalates when appropriate.
- Excellent skill in building cross-functional relationships.
